The EMR System Specialist (Level 1) plays a critical role in supporting, maintaining, and safeguarding the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, interfaced applications, and other related clinical applications. This position assists the EMR System Administrator with system integrity, performance monitoring, and user support, while also contributing to system enhancements, data reporting, and compliance with IT and healthcare standards.
- Perform daily system checks including backups, error logs, journaling, and queued jobs.
- Monitor and maintain Dentrix, PACS (Radiology and non-Radiology), Data Innovations and VISTA Cluster systems.
- Conduct monthly and quarterly system audits, including physical hardware checks and backup verifications.
- Maintain and troubleshoot EMR and Ensemble database systems.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Resolve hardware and software issues related to EMR and interfaced applications.
- Install and configure EMR terminals, printers, software, and patches.
- Execute and customize EMR database reports for clinical and administrative use.
- Maintain system security and ensure compliance with IHS data transmission protocols.
- Analyze and report on EMR system usage and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Act as a liaison between healthcare staff and EMR system vendors for troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Support IT projects involving EMR deployment, upgrades, and interface testing.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of internal websites and databases.
- Perform user access audits and ensure adherence to security protocols.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives through data analysis and reporting.
- Assist with beta tests for the EMR and related clinical applications.
- Provide training and technical guidance to end-users as needed.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with IHS standards and internal SOPs.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in EMR technology, and make recommendations for system updates and upgrades.
- Associate’s degree in Information Systems, Health Informatics, or related field or 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Familiarity with HL7 messaging, software interface testing, and MUMPS programming (preferred).
- Experience with EMR systems is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Familiarity with radiology/imaging applications (e.g., 3D reconstruction, speech recognition) is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and carry up to 5 lbs.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in confined office spaces.
- Must be able to work a standard 40-hour week with occasional after-hours support.
